Mission

A mission is the guideline for action that belongs to a vision, the answer to the question of how the desirable is supposed to happen. It connects a big goal with a path that decisions can be aligned with, for individuals as well as organisations and states. A good mission is concrete enough to show the next step.

Mariana Mazzucato describes mission-oriented policy in “Mission” (2021), and Simon Sinek’s “Start with Why” provides the image of the golden circle. Jonas Drechsel reviewed Mazzucato’s book for ProZukunft in 2021.

In the Missionswerkstatt, which he developed with Johannes Wirz, vision, mission and tomorrow follow one another in the Goldener Kreisel. The workshop also filled in the circle for itself. Vision: mission teams from the workshops realise their projects. Mission: run workshops in which people find their mission. Tomorrow: first tests with thematic communities, grant applications, a sales video.

His own mission, as Jonas Drechsel puts it: making desirable futures more likely.
